City of Saint Louis Water Division, a public community water system under the City Department of Public Utilities, provides water for about 315,685 residents living in St. Louis, the second-largest city in Missouri. Founded in 1835, the City of Saint Louis Water Division System currently obtains its surface water supply from two water plants namely: the Howard Bend Plant which draws water from the Missouri River, and the Chain of Rocks Plant from the Mississippi River. Together, the two plants produce an average of 111 million gallons of water each day.
