The Maryland American Water Company is a subsidiary of American Water, the largest and most diverse US publicly traded water and wastewater utility company. Maryland American Water Company provides water for about 13,200 residents living in Bel Air, the county seat of Harford County, Maryland. Established in 1886, the Maryland American Water Company System currently obtains its supply from a blend of sources, 92% surface water from Winters Run, Reservoir and 8% groundwater from two (2) active wells pumped from Bush River Basin. A supplementary supply from Harford County Water System sourced from a blend of surface water from Loch Raven Reservoir and Susquehanna River and groundwater from seven wells in the area, may be purchased as needed.
