The Indianola Municipal Utilities (IMU) provides water for about 14,782 residents living in the Indianola area, Warren County, Iowa. The Indianola Municipal Utilities collects groundwater from the sandstone and dolomite of the Cambrian-Jordan aquifer, which is roughly 2,600 feet below ground level. The IMU operates four deep wells that supply an average of 1.2 million gallons of raw water per day. The water is treated with lime to reduce hardness and pumped from a 700,000 gallon clear well to be stored in one of the two IMU water towers.
