The City of Norwalk First Taxing District Water System, a public community water system under the City Water Department, provides water for about 40,256 residents living in the area of Central Norwalk, Connecticut. Established in 1836, the City of Norwalk First Taxing District Water System is currently obtaining its supply from a surface water source, Silvermine River. Additionally, the City operates the Kellogg-Deering well field complex on the west bank of the Norwalk River, which augments the supply during periods of drought and heavy water use.
