The WV American Water (WVAW) - Kanawha Valley, West Virginia, a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), provides water for about 200,679 residents living in the Charleston City area, Counties of Kanawha, Mason, Putnam, Lincoln, Boone, Logan, Cabell, Fayette, Clay, Jackson and Roane. Established in 1886, the WV American Water (WVAW) - Kanawha Valley District collects its abundant supply from a primary surface water source, the Elk River.
