The Van Buren Municipal Utilities provides water for about 22,725 residents living in the Van Buren area, Arkansas. Established in 1893, the Van Buren Municipal Utilities purchase treated surface water from Fort Smith Water Utilities. Fort Smith Water Utilities has two independent sources. The primary water source is the Frog Bayou Watershed stored in Lake Fort Smith. The other source is the Lee Creek Watershed stored in Lee Creek Reservoir.
